About this role
The team is seeking a Software Engineer to support the Department of the Air Force in building a robust aircraft maintenance platform. This application leverages Java and Spring Boot microservices, Angular for front-end applications, and various cloud infrastructures. Engineers on this team will develop full-stack features across user interfaces, backend services, and data management that are critical for maintenance operations. This role is offered as a contract engagement, ideal for engineers who value flexibility and autonomy. While there may be an opportunity to convert to full-time, conversion is not guaranteed and is dependent on program needs. The position is remote, with a preference for candidates in East Coast working hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop full-stack features across Angular front-end applications and Java/Spring Boot microservices.
- Build and maintain services in containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Design and implement RESTful APIs to ensure secure communication across systems.
- Implement asynchronous messaging patterns using Kafka for efficient data processing.
- Design and maintain data models and persistence strategies using PostgreSQL or MySQL, along with client-side storage solutions like IndexedDB.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and stakeholders to translate mission needs into technical solutions.
- Contribute to technical design documentation, including architectural diagrams and artifacts.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure high-quality software delivery.
- Support and enhance CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
- Improve performance, scalability, and reliability as the platform evolves.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 5+ years of software development experience.
- Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot for building production-grade services.
- Proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frameworks, with a preference for Angular.
- Experience developing microservices in containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with asynchronous messaging systems like Kafka.
- Proficiency with build tools such as Maven or Gradle.
- Experience designing resilient data synchronization patterns and RESTful interfaces.
- Proficient in working with relational databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL) and client-side storage solutions (IndexedDB).
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated ownership and ability to work from concept through delivery.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience building offline-capable web applications (PWAs).
- Hands-on experience with browser-based databases such as IndexedDB.
- Familiarity with Web Crypto API for encryption-at-rest.
- Experience implementing conflict resolution patterns (e.g., syncing and merging data).
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or similar cloud environments.
- Familiarity with API gateways and management platforms, such as Apigee.
- Knowledge of API authentication and authorization methods (PKI, OAuth2, JWT, LDAP, SAML, etc.).
- Experience working with OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
- Experience supporting U.S. Federal programs, particularly Department of the Air Force environments.
- GCP Certifications (e.g., GCP Architect or GCP Developer) are a plus.
What We Offer:
The team values innovation and is committed to breaking down barriers and building impactful technology. You will have the opportunity to work on mission-critical problems in a dynamic environment that fosters creativity and collaboration.
