The team is seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer to join their Owners team. In this pivotal role, you will have the opportunity to drive the next generation of construction platform initiatives within a global SaaS infrastructure. Collaborating with a dedicated team across Engineering, Product Management, UX, and Architects, you will work to create and scale the next generation experience on the web platform.
As a Senior Principal Software Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include establishing the strategic technical direction and creating reference patterns, while also being hands-on in executing that strategy for one of the core product areas. This role is ideal for someone with strong leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills, aimed at building effective systems and fostering collaborative relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the multi-year technical vision and architecture for foundational platform services that power complex construction workflows across various modalities (web, mobile, API, and agentic surfaces).
- Set architectural direction, standards, and patterns; identify and resolve high-leverage technical problems before they become blockers.
- Act as the final technical authority on significant design decisions, driving alignment across multiple engineering divisions on distributed systems and AI architecture.
- Mentor and develop Principal and Staff engineers, cultivating the next generation of senior technical leaders.
- Define the approach to AI-native engineering and evangelize its adoption across the organization.
- Remain hands-on in prototyping high-risk initiatives and writing code that serves as exemplars for the organization.
- Partner with VPs and product/UX/business executives to shape corporate and product strategy, translating strategic objectives into a coherent technology strategy.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 15+ years of software engineering experience with large-scale, distributed, full-stack systems, including 5+ years at the Principal level or above.
- Proven track record of delivering multi-year technical strategies that have significantly impacted business trajectories.
- Deep expertise across the modern tech stack (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Go, Java, Node.js, Python; React, TypeScript) with mastery in distributed systems design and operational excellence.
- Demonstrated leadership in AI-native engineering, with hands-on experience in architecting AI systems and transforming SDLC practices.
- Recognized technical authority with influence across divisions, evidenced by patents, publications, or open-source leadership.
- Exceptional judgment in navigating ambiguity and driving decisions that stick.
- Strong communication skills, comfortable presenting technical strategies to executive-level audiences.
