About this role

Our client is seeking a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer for a 6-month contract role, outside IR35, to join their team focused on transforming the automotive space. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment utilizing the latest technologies in Ruby on Rails and AI tools, particularly LLMs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own end-to-end system architecture, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable, and delivered at pace.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Commercial teams to translate business objectives into robust technical plans.
  • Drive engineering excellence through best practices, continuous improvement, and sustainable delivery processes.
  • Lead the development and ongoing evolution of high-traffic Ruby on Rails platforms that support significant commercial throughput.
  • Modernize legacy systems while maintaining uninterrupted business operations.
  • Work with stakeholders across pricing, quoting, and customer lifecycle domains to deliver impactful product improvements.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
  • Proficiency in AI and LLMs, including API integration, prompt engineering, and AI-enhanced features.
  • Strong full-stack engineering skills with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Hotwire, and Stimulus.
  • Familiarity with Node.js and React is beneficial.
  • Experience in API design (REST, GraphQL) and external integrations.
  • Knowledge of data stores such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, and Elasticsearch.
  • Experience with async processing tools like Sidekiq and Resque.
  • Understanding of cloud and DevOps technologies, including AWS, Heroku, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with testing and quality practices using RSpec, Capybara, and TDD methodologies.
  • Skills in security, performance tuning, and system hardening.
