Our client is seeking a Junior Web Developer to join their team on a freelance, contract basis. This position is responsible for maintaining and updating all company websites to ensure they are current, functional, secure, and aligned with the organization’s goals. The role involves ongoing website optimization, troubleshooting, and implementing improvements to enhance user experience, performance, and accessibility. This is a work-from-home opportunity, requiring candidates to have a dedicated home office with a reliable internet connection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement new features and functionality for websites.
- Establish and guide the website’s architecture.
- Maintain and update company websites including content, plugins, and themes.
- Ensure all websites are fully functional, responsive, and optimized for speed.
- Troubleshoot and fix website errors, broken links, and performance issues.
- Monitor website analytics and performance to recommend and implement improvements.
- Collaborate with marketing and content teams to upload new material in a timely manner.
- Implement security best practices and coordinate with hosting providers.
- Perform regular backups and ensure recovery plans are in place.
- Stay informed about web technology trends and apply relevant updates.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a webmaster, web administrator, or in a similar role.
- Proficiency in content management systems, particularly WordPress.
- Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and SEO best practices.
- Familiarity with web hosting environments and domain management.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Good understanding of front-end technologies including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery.
- Experience building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications.
- Experience designing and developing responsive design websites.
- Comfortable working with debugging tools like Firebug and Chrome inspector.
- Ability to understand CSS changes and their impact on consistent styling across platforms and browsers.
- Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats such as JSON and XML.
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git, SVN, and Mercurial.
Experience:
- 5-7 years of relevant experience is preferable.
