About this role
Position Overview:
This role involves defining how a third-party digital procurement marketplace fits into an enterprise SAP
procure-to-pay (P2P) landscape. The SAP Functional Consultant owns requirements, process design and
data mapping for vendor, catalogue, requisition, budget, PO, GR and invoice flows. The consultant acts as
the bridge between client business teams, the marketplace product team and SAP technical/integration
consultants, working alongside an SAP Technical / Integration Consultant. The role requires strong
client-facing communication, the ability to challenge assumptions and drive decisions, and hands-on
expertise in SAP MM, FICO integration, and ALE/IDoc/EDI-based data exchange.
Key Responsibilities:
- Run discovery workshops with procurement, finance and IT stakeholders to confirm the current SAP
landscape, version (S/4HANA or ECC) and process variants
- Design the end-to-end P2P flow across the marketplace and SAP: purchase requisition, PO, service entry
and acceptance, goods receipt, invoice and payment
- Define vendor onboarding and master data rules: sync with the Supplier Self Service (SUS) portal, vendor
approval, suspension and deactivation via vendor master blocks
- Specify catalogue and contract-price handling, including extraction of historical PO and contract prices for
price benchmarking
- Design budget and account assignment controls: charge codes, GL codes, cost objects and budget
availability checks against the budget system (ERMS) or SAP FICO before PO approval
- Specify 3-way match (PO, GR, invoice) and GR-before-invoice controls, including tolerances, blocks and
exception handling
- Establish source-of-truth ownership for vendor, material, service and plant master data and for budgets
- Design the ALE/IDoc and EDI data exchange from a functional standpoint: distribution models, message
types (e.g. CREMAS, MATMAS, ORDERS, ORDCHG, DESADV, INVOIC), filtering rules, partner-specific
requirements and field mappings for master and transactional data between SAP systems and with
non-SAP systems
- Monitor and troubleshoot IDoc processing (WE02/WE05, BD87): analyse failed or stuck IDocs, trace root
cause to data or configuration, coordinate reprocessing and define business exception-handling
procedures
- Write functional specifications, data mapping documents and interface field-level requirements for the
technical team
- Define multi-currency, pricing and audit-trail requirements so marketplace transactions reconcile with
SAP
- Prepare test scenarios, lead SIT and UAT with business users, and support cutover and hypercare
Required Skills:
- 7+ years of experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, commerce, finance or a related field
- 7+ years of SAP MM functional experience with at least 2 full-cycle implementations or major P2P rollouts
- Strong knowledge of P2P configuration: purchasing documents, release strategies, GR/IR, service entry
sheets, invoice verification (MIRO) and payment blocks
- Working knowledge of SAP FICO integration: GL accounts, cost centres, internal orders/WBS, account
determination and budget/funds checks
- Hands-on ALE/IDoc functional experience: designing, configuring, monitoring and troubleshooting the
exchange of master and transactional data between SAP systems (ALE) and between SAP and non-SAP
systems (EDI)
- Experience integrating SAP with external procurement platforms, e-catalogues or punch-out (OCI/cXML)
solutions
- Proven ability to write clear functional specs and data mappings for IDoc, BAPI or API-based interfaces
- Strong vendor, material and service master data management experience
- Excellent client-facing communication; able to challenge assumptions and drive decisions
Preferred (Bonus) Skills:
- S/4HANA experience (Central Procurement, Business Partner model) and ECC-to-S/4HANA migration
exposure
- SAP SRM, Ariba or SUS exposure
- Familiarity with SAP Fiori apps for procurement and spend reporting
- Exposure to BPM/workflow tools such as Pega for approvals
- Utilities or public-sector procurement domain experience
- SAP MM or S/4HANA Sourcing and Procurement certification
- MuleSoft certification or SAP Integration Suite certification
- SAP BTP, Event Mesh or API Management
- Punch-out (OCI/cXML) and e-catalogue integrations
- Integrating SAP with Pega or other BPM/workflow platforms
- Fiori/UI5 basics for reporting or approval app
